The Rookie Problem

When you’re the rookie who got drafted at a high position and become the one to watch and things become tricky.

Sometimes you get drafted into the big leagues by a smaller team because the big boys don’t want to take the initial risk of an unproven rookie.

The best rookies, the ones who last in the big leagues and keep going for years, love and feed off the scrutiny and doubters.

But you also reward the teams that believed in you when no one did, in a couple of years when the big boys come knocking. The best of players honour their initial backers and that’s the rookie who goes on to retire a club legend and cult hero.
