So much brainpower in the tech world is being used up to solve lifestyle and luxury problems. You see companies that create juice pressers and social media apps get millions in start-up capital and hire a lot of talent only to have them build trivial products.
Very few companies tackle real-life problems like health, poverty, and climate change. While the first two might not be of great concern to 1st world countries, climate change surely has to be a topic of concern.
Guys like Elon Musk have a cult-like following because of their work in tackling real-life problems at scale, yet we see more people going the Bezos and Zuckerberg route than Musk. The world needs its great minds solving real-life problems at scale, not another social app or pizza delivery robot.
